There is a plaque on the wall at my sister’s house: “Life is what happens to us while we are making other plans.”
For us right now, our plans to return to France are on hold while Tony undergoes triple heart bypass surgery.
What we had planned to do this year was to go back to France a little earlier and for longer than we have been able to in the past couple of years, having to always fit in around work commitments. The opportunity had arisen for me to take a redundancy package, allowing us the funds and the freedom to do so. Little did we know that the very day after I finished work, he would get the shocking news that he needed this major surgery.
There is a lot to be thankful for:
- that we are in Australia (medical treatment in another country brings with it added stress)
- that we had not yet booked our air tickets
- that he avoided having a full-blown heart attack
- and that (as far as the medical team is concerned) it is a “routine” procedure
Even so, there is an ache in my own heart as he undergoes the surgery as I write this post, and in the weeks ahead, as he recovers, I aim to take us on a journey of reminiscence, sharing photos of the highlights of all that we have seen and done over our short 5 year history together – things I hardly dared dream about before this inspirational man came into my life.
I hope you enjoy the ride. We certainly have.
