Sometimes it seems like a dream that we actually own a house in France – especially when we are busy working and house-sitting in Australia!
We can’t wait to get back (although it is lovely to be able to catch up with friends and family – and especially to be able to see my adorable little grandson Hudson, and Tony’s cute little granddaughter Evie before they grow up – as children do, so very quickly.)
But we miss the romance of France and the sense of her rich and turbulent history represented in part by wonderful Castles, scattered all over the country, but many within easy driving distance of our house in central France, like these chateaux we have visited in the Loire Valley:
Chateau de Valencay (less than an hour from us), rising majestically on the hillside as you drive towards the town of Valencay:
and Chateau de Chenonceau (a couple of hours away, not far from Tours)straddled across the river Cher:
You can even stay in some castles and that’s definitely on our wish-list, along with a hot air balloon ride – maybe we can combine the two? Makes me smile just to imagine it.
