Smack bang in the middle of Kuala Lumpur is the KL Plaza Suites where we stayed for our first week in Malaysia.
Rather a comedown from our beautiful hotel in Bangkok… the building was under renovation (and obviously needed it!) but location, location, as they say, and we appreciated the full housekeeping daily (which is something not normally expected in timeshare accommodation) and really it was perfectly adequate. Situated right in the centre of KL near all the shops and markets, we easily explored the city sights and shops.
We did lots of walking, and found the local trains and buses very inexpensive.
We made the train journey out to Amcorp Mall for the “largest flea market in KL” but we were a bit disappointed as the stalls were actually set up in the mall itself and lacked the usual market atmosphere.
Central market and Chinatown were hectic…
but the heat and humidity were wearing so while we usually prefer markets we really appreciated the comfort of the modern shopping centres.
The Pavilion shopping centre was just across the road from us – easily identifiable by the pretty Crystal Fountain out the front.
Which comes alive at night with bright ever-changing colours.
The food court downstairs became a frequent haunt. Our favourite spot was the Japanese Teppan-Yaki bar. Healthy, delicious, entertaining and good value.
The cinema was also great value and we treated ourselves to Gold Class (once we checked that the movie was screening in English!) However the theatre was so well cooled that I needed to snuggle under the blanket provided. Krazy.
