To market to market

The second private tour we organised at the hotel tour desk in Bangkok took us to the Damnoen Saduak Floating Markets (about 100km away) where you can shop without dropping, floating by all the touristy stalls in a canoe. The vendors were quite persistent and it was probably a good thing that we didn’t have much cash on us.

After that we were taken for a ride through the quiet canals, seeming to be a world away.

We enjoyed wandering around the rest of the market with its huge array of food and wares, and seeing canoes laden with fresh produce. Then had a sticky beak “behind the scenes” at the canal-side residences.

On the way back we were taken to see Thai wood carvers in action – amazing painstaking work.

The chairs carved out of single pieces of wood were incredible but just a bit out of our price range… though we did check that they shipped to France!

Back at the hotel we treated ourselves to a dip in the pool followed by a delicious cocktail. Lovely.
